You will have this job for the rest of your life, and you will never get a single day off. It&#8217;s a <em>huge<\/em> commitment. And it&#8217;s worth the effort to be sure you do it well, because the cost of failure is ultimately paid by both parents <em>and<\/em> kids.<\/p>\n<p>I know this because I was a child of two people who found having kids less rewarding than expected.\u00a0They knew they should be feeling things they didn&#8217;t, and it haunted them. They did the best they could, but their parenting came from a sense of responsibility more than from unconditional love. And unfortunately, that had a dramatic effect on us kids.<\/p>\n<p>Through this blog, I aspire to help others avoid some of the traps in thinking that ensnared my own parents and scarred my sister and I.<\/p>\n<p><em>Please be aware: <strong>I am\u00a0not a therapist<\/strong>, but rather a student of human communication in the real world.
