So you’re thinking about having kids. That’s fantastic news!<\/p>\n

What’s fantastic is not the fact that you will or won’t do it, but the fact that you’re\u00a0thinking about it.\u00a0<\/em>The world needs more thought. Less rushing headlong into things without a real idea what’s going on and more deep, introspective thought. Especially when the stakes are high. So good for you!<\/p>\n

\n

You are considering one of the most-difficult jobs in existence, one from which you will never get a single day off. It’s a huge<\/em> commitment. And it’s worth the effort to be sure you’re prepared to do it well, because the cost of failure is ultimately paid by both parents and<\/em> kids.<\/p>\n

I know this because I was a child of two people who found having kids less rewarding than expected.\u00a0They knew they should be feeling things they didn’t, and it haunted them. They did the best they could, but their parenting came from a sense of responsibility more than from unconditional love. And unfortunately, that had a dramatic effect on us kids.<\/p>\n

Through this blog, I aspire to help others avoid some of the traps in thinking that ensnared my own parents and scarred my sister and I.<\/p>\n

Please be aware: I am\u00a0not a therapist<\/strong>, but rather a student of human communication in the real world. Through observation, exploration, and interaction; I have found ideas and perspectives that may be helpful to others who are struggling with the legacy of their own childhoods… and seeking to avoid passing that legacy on to their children.<\/em><\/p>\n
